The Mission ORASI

1) Contribute with a totally new and independent idea in Portugal.
2) Answer a demand in the market, ofering to the country something that never had before.

5) Contribute for the credibility ans social status of the profession.
6) Contribute for the knowledge and required formation in the European Diploma of Psychology, since that all ORASI dynamic was created according to it (EuroPsy).

Ethical and Deonthological Obligations ORASI

ORASI was created to fullfil the formation of portuguese psychologists. That's why ORASI was created according to all the recomendations for the 3rd phase of formation (supervision) of the European Diploma of Psychology (Europsy), as well as with the ethical principles of EFPA (European Federation of Psychologists' Associations). We have portuguese and foreign certified, competent and recognized professionals in order to garantee the organization and structure of ORASI dynamics.

We hired several professionals, by recomendation and approval of our comissions, with the following criteria for all of them: 1) psychologists; 2) five years of experience in the area they provide supervision; 3) master degree at least, but preferencially Ph.D; 4) connection to an university in order to garantee the actualization of knowledge (this last criteria is preferencial).

    To insure and guarantee the mission and quality of the ethical and deontological patterns and also the competent recognition of the professionals who belong as members of the ORASI Network of Supervisors, ORASI has a Techno-Scientific Committee with the support of a Consultant Committee, both with national and international professionals, as the following:

Ayse Ciftçi (Psychologist, Ph.D by the University of Memphis (USA). Several awards: Award of Merit reconhecido by division 52 of the American Psychological Association, in the categories of "study of a Cross-National Sample"; Outstanding Student Research by the division 17 about "Ethnic and Racial Diversity"; Outstanding Graduate Student Award in Counseling Psychology and Service Excelence Leader, by Behavioural Health Systems. Author and co-author of several published articles. Member of APA, International Association of Applied Psychology and International Family Therapy Association. Ayse Uruk has also several training in psychotherapeutic models. Professor and researcher in the area of Educational Studies at Purdue University).

Ivandro Soares Monteiro (Psychologist, master degree in Psychology, in the specialization area of Cognitive Sciences in 2003, and doctorand in Clinical Psychology since 2004 at he University of Minho (Portugal). Professor at Instituto Superior da Maia. Certified consultant. Several courses in psychology and mental health area. Course of Epidemiologic Research and Statistical Analysis of data, by the Faculty of Medicine of Porto (Portugal). Ivandro Soares Monteiro has developed several activities and formation for his Ph.D and clinical practice at the University of Memphis (USA).  Portuguese researcher at the International Research Team (University of Memphis, USA). Member of the American Psychological Association - APA, of Associação Pró-Ordem dos Psicólogos (Pro-Order Association of Psychologists), of Sociedade Portuguesa de Psicologia (Portuguese Society of Psychology) and of the Associação Nacional de Jovens Empresários (National Association of Young Enterpreneurs) .

Jose Martins (Clinical Psychologist, recognized by the Ministery of Health. Diploma of the "École de Psychologues Practiciens de Paris" (France) and Ph.D in Clinical Psychology, by the University of Minho (Portugal). José Martins was professor in several universities and faculties, namely in the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of Porto (Portugal), in Escola Superior de Enfermagem Santa Maria and nowadays professor at Instituto Superior da Maia, where he's also director of licensure graduation in Counseling, monographs and practicum supervisor. In the clinical area, José Martins was the Coordinator of Psychology department of Magalhães Lemos mental Hospital until 2002. Member of several juries of the National Comission for the Support of Compulsive Internment and member of the North Comission of Mental Health. He received the APPORT Award  in 1998.


Thomas Sayger (Psychologist and family therapist. Ph.D in Counseling Psychology by the Indiana State University (USA). Director of the Training Program and Supervision in Counseling Psychology and professor at the University of  Memphis (USA). Thomas Sayger was assistant professor at the Department of Counseling Psychology, and later, in the University of Winsconsin – Madison. In 1994, received an honorary award by the Governor of Winsconsin state, because of his work with families in the community. His experience, as a professor, é majorly with master and doctorate students, in the area of Counseling and Family Therapy. Author and editor of several books. He's also a researcher and published his work in several books, book chapters and articles. Member of several comissions and of Division 17 of APA. Member of Execute Board of CCPTP, Editorial Review Board of 2 journals. Member da American Psychological Association).

Américo Baptista (Psychologist, Lusófona University, Portugal) - Resumé soon.

Andy Horne (Psychologist, University of Georgia, EUA) - Completed his Ph.D at Southern Illinois University in 1971.  He taught at Indiana State University from 1971 until 1989, during which time he served as a member of the faculty and Director of Training of the APA-Accredited Counseling Psychology Program.  He also was a member of the AAMFT-Accredited Marriage and Family Therapy Program and he twice served as Acting Department Head.  During that time he also was a visiting professor for the Boston University Overseas Program (Germany, Belgium), and a summer visiting professor to several university programs in the U.S. He completed a post-doctoral clinical research experience 1977-1978.  In 1989 he accepted a position at the University of Georgia where he served as department head (four years) and as Director of Training of the APA-Accredited Counseling Psychology Program (eight years), as well as Coordinator of a Certificate Program in Marriage and Family Therapy (thirteen years).


Angela Maia (Psychologist, University of Minho, Portugal) - Licensure in Psychology by the University of Porto (Portugal) and Ph.D in Clinical psychology, by the University of Minho (Portugal). Nowadays, Angela Maia is professor in the Department of Psychology of the University of Minho and Coordinator of a unit in the Service of Psychology and Human Development in the same university. Besides teaching, Angela Maia is also a researcher and psychologist in the community in the areas of clinical psychology and psychotherapy, mainly in the impact of adversity in mental health, specially trauma. She is the coordinator of several research projects in this area, autor and co-author of several publications about this subject.

Joao Salgado (Psychologist, Instituto Superior of Maia, Portugal) - Licensure in Psychology by the Faculty of Psychology and Sciences of Education of the University of Porto (Portugal) , in 1992, where he received the award from the Fundação Engenheiro António Almeida, for great scholar achievement. In 2000, João Salgado finished his Ph.D in clinical psychology, by the University of Minho (Portugal). Professor and Coordinator of the graduation in Psychology in the Instituto Superior of Maia (Portugal). He also directs the Service of Psychology opened to the community in the same university. João Salgado colaborates with teams of investigation in his area of interests, participates as a researcher in projects related to the study of personal identity, psychopathology and psychotherapy, in a narrative and discursive perspective. He published several articles in national and international journals, and often participates in congresses and events in the area of Psychology.

Jose Barrias (Psychiatrist, Institute of Alcohology, Portugal) - Director of the Institute of Alcohology, medical doctor and psychiatrist and member of the Ordem dos Médicos. José Barrias was professor in the area of Psychiatry and psychology in Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar (Icbas) and in the Instituto Superior of Maia (Ismai). He participated as professor in the Master degrees in Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon and Porto. José Barrias was the Clinical Director in the Hospital Magalhães Lemos for 2 mandates in a row and founder and director of the Regional Center of Alcohology of Porto. He was presidente of the European Meeting about Community Prevention of Alcohol Problems and represented Portugal in the World Health Organization (WHO) as counselor and Counterpart in the European Alcohol Action Plan. He is ans was member, founder and president of several national and foreign scientific societies and member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Óscar Gonçalves (Psychologist, University of Minho, Portugal) - Cathedratical Professor of Psychology in the University of Minho (Portugal). Licensure in Psychology by the University of Porto and Ph.D in Psychotherapy and Psychological Counseling by the University of Massachusetts (USA). Óscar Gonçalves was professor at the University of Porto (Portugal), at the University of California (USA) and visiting professor in several european and american universities. He is professor at the University of Minho (Portugal) since 1989, where he was one of the founders of the graduation in Psychology, which he directed until 1998. He also was the vice-president of the Institute of Education in Psychology for 3 mandates, where he was the coordinator of post-graduations in Psychology and Director of the Master degree of Clinical Psychology since its beggining. He received several scientific and professional awards (Fundação Engº António de Almeida; Alumni Award of the University of Massachusetts, and Association of Portuguese Psychologists) He has more than a hundred national and international publications in journals and books, being an author of 11 books, some of which edited in foreign countries. He oriented 23 masters and 16 Ph.D's. Nowadays, he is the Director of the Department of Psychology of the University of Minho (Portugal).

Robert Neimeyer, Ph.D. (Psychologist, University of Memphis, EUA) - Professor and Director of Psychotherapy Research in the Department of Psychology, University of Memphis, where he also maintains an active clinical practice. Neimeyer has published 20 books, including Meaning Reconstruction and the Experience of Loss, and serves as Editor of the journal Death Studies. The author of nearly 300 articles and book chapters, and a frequent workshop presenter, he is currently working to advance a more adequate theory of grieving as a meaning-making process.  Neimeyer served as President of the Association for Death Education and Counseling and Chair of the International Work Group for Death, Dying, & Bereavement.  In recognition of his scholarly contributions, he has been granted the Eminent Faculty Award by the University of Memphis, and made a Fellow of the American Psychological Association.

Scott McIntyre (Psychologist, Houston Clear Lake University, EUA) - PhD in Organizational Psychology, Master Degree in Community Counseling and in Organizational Psychology by the Georgia State University. Assistant Professor at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (Texas, USA). Scott McIntyre was a university professor in Portugal for several years, advisor of more than 200 monographs and intership advisor in social/organizational/Community areas. In Portugal, he was a pionneer in Occupational Health Psychology. Member of several international research groups and member of the Executive Comission of the European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology.

Scott Stuart (Psychiatrist, University of Iowa, USA) - Dr. Stuart is a psychiatrist and a Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Iowa (USA).  He has been active in clinical work, education and research in the areas of Interpersonal Psychotherapy and perinatal psychiatry during the last two decades. Dr. Stuart completed his medical training at the University of Kansas, followed by internship at the University of Pittshburgh. He has received several teaching awards, including the John Clancy Teacher of the Year Award (Department of Psychiatry of the University of Iowa). He is the President and co-founder of the International Society of Interpersonal Psychotherapists and Director of the Interpersonal Psychotherapy Institute.  He has also authored a number of articles on IPT, and is the co-author of an internationally acclaimed textbook on Interpersonal Psychotherapy.

Timothy Melchert, Ph.D. (Psychologist, University of Marquette, EUA) - Graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Ph.D. in counseling psychology in 1992. He taught in the Department of Psychology at Texas Tech University from 1992 to 1998 before joining the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology at Marquette University as department chair in 1998. In 2006, he returned to the regular faculty to pursue research in several areas including the influence of child maltreatment and other family of origin experiences on development, along with various professional and training issues in psychology.
