With Dr. Scott Stuart
(University of Iowa, EUA)
Dr. Stuart is the President and co-founder
ofthe International Society of Interpersonal Psychotherapists and
Director of the Interpersonal Psychotherapy Institute. He is a
psychiatrist and a Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology in the
Department of Psychiatry of the University of Iowa (USA). He
has been active in clinical work, education and research in the areas
of Interpersonal Psychotherapy and perinatal psychiatry during the last
two decades. Dr. Stuart completed his medical training at the
University of Kansas, followed by internship at the University of
Pittshburgh. He has received several teaching awards, including the
John Clancy Teacher of the Year Award (Department of Psychiatry of the
University of Iowa). He has also authored a number of articles on
IPT, and is the co-author
of an internationally acclaimed textbook on Interpersonal
Psychotherapy. This book, Interpersonal Psychotherapy: A
Clinician’s Guide (check the picture aside), is recommended as a
text for this training. |
PRESENTATION
ORASI is proud to organize and
present in the historical city of Porto (Portugal), for the second time
in this city, a training course in Interpersonal Psychotherapy,
featuring invited guest lecturuer Scott Stuart. This training is
certified by the Interpersonal Psychotherapy Institute as level
“A” psychotherapist training, as recommended by the
International Society of Interpersonal Psychotherapy (ISIPT). ORASI is
recognized and recommended by ISIPT to organize this course.

FOR WHOM?
The class is designed for psychotherapists with some experience in
dynamic psychotherapy. Participants
should be well acquainted with basic psychotherapy principles, such as
the ability to effectively engage patients, to formulate cases, and to
use specific psychotherapy techniques. It
will be of particular benefit to those practitioners who use or plan to
use short-term psychotherapy, or who frequently use psychotherapy with
adjunct to medication management
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course, the participants should be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge of interpersonal theory and IPT research
literature; Conduct Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) and utilize IPT
techniques; Deal effectively with difficult and resistant psychotherapy
patients using IPT techniques.
COURSE DESCRIPTION AND
FORMAT
This course is designed to instruct participants in the theory
and practice of Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). The course will
consist of didactic presentations and a review of the research evidence
supporting IPT, followed by multimedia presentations demonstrating the
use of IPT with patients. The presentation will also include
videotapes of the course director and other experts conducting IPT with
patients. Group discussion and role-playing will help to synthesize the
information and examples presented.
ACCREDITATION
This course is certified by the
Interpersonal Psychotherapy Institute for level A
trainning for Interpersonal Psychotherapist, as recommended by the
International
Society for Interpersonal Psychotherapy.
